SITE HISTORY
Damaged began at envy.nu in late March or early April of 2001. It was hosted by fallingdust.org in September, but kicked out in February. Kallure.com was kind enough to pick it up, and it has been hosted here since Feb. 2002. Go look in the faq for info on why it's called "Damaged", etc.
PAST LAYOUTS
Oldest to newest
Version 1.3

splash v. 1.3

inside v. 1.3
The splash image was a black and white pic of Jessica Simpson that I altered. All inside pages featured an image of a Japanese character (D on my keyboard).
It was entirely black and white. These images can be found in the CREATRIX section.
Version 2-Damaged Paradise

Splash and Main Popup Window
I am very proud of this layout. I finally got an image map to work that was also attractive. I got some good feedback on it. I felt like my charmed life had been so very damaged, and I wanted to escape to some sort of tropical paradise, and there was the picture. Unfortunately, it became entirely inappropriate, so I am replacing it. It may come back one day.
Version 3-Damaged Fate

splash version 3

main pop up version 3
This layout represents the second tragedy I experienced this year, the suicide of someone very important to me when I was younger. He was someone who deeply affected everyone who knew him. The picture was altered from a warm glowy set of colors to a blue, watery effect that made me think of drowning--although that's not how he did it. More of drowning in sorrow, the pain of loss, being inconsolable. The splash page image incorporates a picture of him. The main page was a popup.
Version 4-Just Let Me Be

version 4 main page
This layout was a spur of the moment thing because I wanted a change. I didn't get any comments on it, probably because it sucked. It's the shortest lived layout I've had so far.
Version 5-Something Wicked

version 5 mail popup
This layout was something I'd been wanting to do for some time. I visited Salem, Mass a few years ago, and fell in love with it. The photos were of a statue of the town founder, and the Salem Witch House.
Version 6-Shadowed

version 6 main pop up
This layout was done on a whim, based on a graphic I made of a girl crossed with some flowers. It was ok. I got some compliments but it was kind of boring.
Version 7-Oblivion

Main popup for version 7
This layout was created after I went looking through old supermodel galleries from the early 90s, when the whole "supermodel" phenomenon was at its peak. Christy Turlington, the featured model, was the cream of the crop in 1991, which is when this picture was taken. It was simple and clean, and I got many compliments on the navigation--which seemed overly simplistic to me, but I guess whatever makes it easiest on the visitor is what's best.
Version 8-Éire

Main page, version 8
This layout was created while listening to U2 and viewing some lovely designs around the web. It was an experiment in different graphic techniques as well as dhtml and layers. Ric didn't like it much, and I admit it looks best from across the room, but I think it's alright.
Version 9-New Year

Main layout, version 9
Spur of the moment. I had no idea I was going to make this when I sat down at the computer. I was surfing around and saw some sites with a sort of design I've liked for a long time, and decided to do my take on it. Created Christmas Night/My Birthday early morning. I found the photo on xmas eve. Hopefully easier to read than the last version.
Version 10-Ethereal

Main layout, version 10
I wanted to do something in black and red, and another color, which ended up being white. I looked around for a ballet photo to manipulate and ended up with a dancer in white who looked like she was bleeding. This is the first time I've used any brushes in a layout, in the background of the cam area and a little in the picture of the dancer. I found them at Relique.net and VBrush. I am always the last to jump on the bandwagon; just as brushes get less popular, I figure out how to use them. Anyway, I just wanted a dancey layout. No, I am not the girl in the picture.
Version 11-F11 ("Fuck the revolution!")

Main layout, version 11
This design came out of some experiments I did when I first downloaded all those brushes from Relique.net and VBrush. I just slapped on some brushes until I thought it looked finished. Navigation was in the images below the text box. I decided to have the cam be more of a part of the design, and you had to click the old black and white cam image in the upper right to launch the remote cam. This caused quite a bit of confusion, despite the image having text on it that said "Click remote cam." People couldn't find the cam, and one person even added me to their portal by linking that picture instead of the actual cam image. I also had a lot of complaints from Mac users because none of the text showed up correctly. This layout lasted a long time because I lacked any sort of inspiration for a new one, and I really liked it. Oh yeah, and I changed it to green for 24 hours on St. Pat's.
Version 12-Full Metal Bikini

Main layout, version 12
I made this about a week before Star Wars, Episode Two came out. I love Star Wars, obviously. I got a lot of compliments from guys on it, and a lot of girls were like, wtf? Which I don't get, when Princess Leia is such a great role model, but whatever. I really wanted to make the layout with a picture of her in her metal bikini (hence the title) but I couldn't any good ones. It was either Darth kneeling or Luke in the binary sunset scene. I left this one up longer than I'd intended, but I had trouble finding inspiration for a new layout. A lot of my inspiration went into the Day Without Me section.
Version 13

Main layout, version 13
This layout sucked. I hated it from the moment I put it up, only to find myself suffering from layout creator's block. It featured a messed up cam image of me (how vain) and the colors gray and darker gray...although I heard it looked purple, and no one could read the text. I don't have much to say about this layout. It was that awful.
Version 14

Main layout, version 14
This layout was really cool. It was an autumn theme, with fall leaves and a tireswing. It said "You're kept awake dreaming someone else's dream" at the top, which is from the song Electrical Storm by U2. This was such a vast improvement over the previous layout, and got a lot of compliments. I left it up past Christmas, so it was a little past its prime, but it still looked good. I was proud of myself, and all the people who thought they were being so helpful by telling me what I'd done wrong on the last layout shut up when they realized I did know how to make a layout afterall.
Version 15

Main layout, version 15
This was a sort of elegant little thing, thanks in no small part to the ever so lovely Natalie Portman. It was very simple, all black and white. It was up longer than expected ("She was a january girl," lyric by Tori Amos...up until April) but it was nice and I didn't really get sick of it, I just felt like something new might be interesting.
Version 16

Main layout, version 16
I was really feeling "Running To Stand Still" by U2, and I wanted to have music on the site. After asking people for months and months if they had any idea how to get that particular code to work and getting nothing but an earful about how it's considered rude to put a midi player on your site on auto loop without an "off" button...thank you Mr. HTML 1997...I finally figured it out. It was a really simple, pretty boring layout that wasn't intended to stay up for as long as it did, and was virtually the same as version 15, only with song lyrics instead of Natalie Portman.
Version 17

Main layout, version 17
I needed a new layout. I'd already started this design months earlier and decided to finish it off while trying to figure out something better. It's from a cam picture of my pants. Isn't that just fabulous? /sarcasm.
Version 18

Main layout, version 18
Font=LainieDaySH. Model=Valeria Mazza. Image map. Blue. No title.
Version 19
It was cool. It was up too long. I forgot to save it before putting up the new layout, because I was so excited to have the computer back online and be able to upload a new one I didn't even think about it. It was dark and featured Timberline Lodge at sunset (Mt. Hood, Oregon).
Version 20

Main layout, version 20.
Bono. Not my fiance, and definately not me, aol troll who said I was fugly.
Version 21

Main Layout, Version 21.
Some chick from Victoria's Secret. Browns, warm tones, and a quote from the Beatles...."Golden slumbers fill your eyes...smiles await you when you rise" from Abbey Road, which I did a dance to about two weeks before this layout.
Version 22

Main Layout, Version 22.
Launched September 15, 2004. Pendant lamps from west elm, which I still haven't ordered from but love a lot. Larger font and blog iframe than the previous layout.
Version 23

Main Layout, Version 23.
Launched April 6, 2005. "She Talks To Angels"...from the fabulous Black Crowes song (lyrics here), and Ric's suggestion to use the "Creation" image. Images from google image searches. The previous layout was up longer than intended due to loss of ftp program, PSP7 issues, and laziness. Font=kartina. Nudity! Notice how the left hand of three of the people/angels/characters are extended and bent at the wrist? I swear I didn't do it on purpose, but I think it's cool. I also didn't realize I had two photos with crossed feet.
Version 23.3

Main Layout, Version 23.3
Launched sometime after Revenge Of The Sith came out. Then I had a series of computer mishaps, and it stayed up for almost a year. It's not a good layout by any stretch of the imagination and I am quite sick of it.
Version 24

Main Layout, Version 24
I have no idea when I put this up. I'm pretty sure it was up for the better part of a year. Boy am I getting lazy with these things.
V. 25: Anacreontic

Main Layout, Version 25
I sought out a new word for this one: anacreontic. It means jovial, festive, and amorous; celebrating love and drinking. The fonts used were Miss Claude and Last Words. The photo is of spring time in Chapel Hill, or so I assume, bc that was how I had saved it whenever it was that I saved it. I hadn't intended to use the same color scheme as the previous layout, but it was so close I almost didn't have to change the coding. While searching for design inspiration, I discovered that no one designs anymore...it's all just blog layouts now. Sigh.
Version 26th

Main Layout, Version 26
I have been doing a lot of pointe work lately, so this photo was just right. I have no idea who the dancer is. The colors evoked a late fall evening with the black and gold, but it isn't actually seasonal, so if it gets left up for a long time, it's not going to get stale like the springy layout it replaced.
